B and I can’t really be said to do, shall we say, “Political car-toons”…but we just couldn’t resist this.
I’ll try not to shovel on too many heaping spoon fulls of my own opinion (after all, the Internet is NO place for controversy, and even less of a place for opinions), but I don’t much like Fox News. I mean…it’s hilarious…but it’s the kind of funny where you need to laugh so that you don’t cry. I guess the problem is that B and I are relatively, shall we say, left of centre. We shall say that Fox’s general political views do not align with ours and leave it at that. Hell, I don’t like televised news at ALL really, but remind me to do a rant on that later…I shall digress and say that we were not impressed when we read that Fox was trying to open a new station in the great white north.
There is an online petition attempting to prevent it’s arrival on our sunny shores. The CRTC wishes not to allow the station into the country, and Mr. Harper is trying to use his power to ensure it DOES get into the country…it’s all quite the hullabaloo. I invite you to “sign” the online petition, if you’re interested. Personally I haven’t, because I’m a little torn…the problem is, I think free speech is pretty damn important. Fox certainly has things to say, and who am I to say they’re not allowed to say them. It’s not my place. But that’s the thing…it is the CRTCs place. But then, who is the CRTC to say what people can and can’t say on television? Well…they’re the CRTC. And the rules seem to state that is something they do. I certainly don’t agree with all the things they censor, but it is their jobs. And Stephen Harper should not be allowed to reverse a decision they’ve made just because he doesn’t like it…any more than I should.
I guess we’ll see.

CORRECTION – Sorry! I guess this is why we don’t generally do political cartoons…they require so much effort and RESEARCH…the CRTC is not trying to ban the channel, they are trying to disallow them the right to be a mandatory part of all cable packages. Everything I’ve said still applies I think

Freedom of speech should trump all. It’s a shame it doesn’t because the existence of the CRTC pretty much spits on it. Anyone can say anything and it’s up to people to comprehend and criticize people for saying stupid things. It’s a shame that a lot of people can’t handle their freedoms so that the government felt the need to create the CRTC.

Well that sure is easy to say, isn’t it.
What do you think this is exactly? A blog? Or worse…a FORUM? Because it really seems to me that’s how you’re treating it. And frankly sir, I’m appalled.
