MF office #46: Heights

Yeah, I’ve got a bit of a thing with heights. I’ve got a lot better about it through sheer will, but it never goes away. It’s always there, waiting to remind me “hey, you’re getting a little high off the ground, dontcha maybe wanna stay there?” It still doesn’t trump my claustrophobia, which maybe I’ll get into another time.

What are you afraid of? I know for some people it’s this guy right here.

If you’re afraid of heights then how do you place those Transformers on the top shelf?

    • boliver

Well…I’m tall. Honestly, being afraid of heights makes it difficult to walk around normally ;)

  2. Gooberandcindy.com

Hehe. Almost there. Just don’t look down.

  3. Tony McGurk

He sure knows how to push fear to the limit. I don’t have a problem with heights but I don’t like large crowds, makes me feel really claustrophobic.

    • boliver

I get funny in overly large, tightly packed crowds too. And yet I like roller coasters…go figure.

      • Binky

Aren’t roller coasters high? And you enjoy the falling?

        • boliver

Lol, I know, right? I think it’s because it’s controlled…as in I’m not the one in control of it. I’m strapped in by a safety harness and it’s designed that way. For some reason I don’t feel that when climbing a ladder.

          • Binky

I don’t really like the not-in-control feeling of roller coasters. That, and the big drops!

          • Tony McGurk

And the crash when the thing derails can be scary too

        • Tony McGurk

I really hate that falling feeling. I can’t even stand jumping off a highish rock into a swimming hole

  4. Saeed

Snakes. I freaking HATE snakes. Can’t stand them. Even little garden snakes.

    • boliver

Well then, I’m gonna have to start calling you Indian Jones then ;)

  5. Tim Green

I far back as I can remember I’ve been terrified of heights. Just getting on a step stool to change a light bulb makes me uncomfortable!

    • boliver

Same for me, thought I’ve gotten a lot better. This strip came about because I was helping put boxes up in the top of our garage and I was up a whole 3 steps :) . I had to force myself, but I did it. The longer I was up there, the more I got used to it. I find it’s really good therapy.

Right there with ya on heights cuz, and that link would be my worst nightmare! Not really a claustrophobic person, unless it is a tight space in a crowd. I get true and genuine anxiety symptoms both up high and in a crowd. I would be perfectly happy to be the guy IN FRONT of the crowd talking, naked, before I would ever want to be in one… just so long as my platform above them is not too high. :P

    • boliver

But you being naked in front of the crowd would probably give all of them anxiety ;)

  7. Bearman

I am not afraid of heights…I am afraid of falling.

    • boliver

He he, true, that does summarize it.

  8. Schmuck man

“I’m not afraid of heights, I am afraid of FALLING from heights.”

    -George Carlin

    • boliver

It really does explain it best. That probably explains why I’m not that afraid of roller coasters…it’s heights in a controlled environment.

  9. Aaron

Not gonna lie, my first thought when I saw “this guy right here” beside “worst nightmare” I thought of Rick Santorum…

  10. Karen

I understand completely. I am never doing the Lynn Valley Suspension bridge either!

    • boliver

Oh ya, that was a fun one. I’m trying to remember if I actually made it across that thing?

  11. Andrei Esca

Step 1: denial. Deny that there’s a ladder, it will work.

    • boliver

I’m gonna have to get really drunk for this to work…this will end badly.

  12. George

I’m deathly afraid of heights too. I can’t get past the fourth rung on a ladder without panicking. I can’t imagine how the construction guys who are building on the 100th floor standing on nothing but a girder. Yowzers!

    • boliver

Oh man, I just see a picture of that and I get uneasy.

  13. Dr. X

    Baby steps baby

  14. Mark Stokes

Just be glad that ladder’s not in a crowded elevator, then your agro-clautraphobia would kick in big time!

    • boliver

      Yep, now that’s a fun little combo I hadn’t thought of :S

  15. JerryBenedict

I’ll just say what everyone must be thinking…. It’s a real shame they don’t make portable escalators for these occasions!

    • boliver

If only. That or a hover suit.

  16. Justin

House centipedes give me the willies, but for some reason I’m in charge of killing them around the house.

  17. Gary

My biggest fear is I spend too much time reading and commenting on webcomics. Motherfucker!

    • boliver

I don’t think you need to be afraid of that…we’re all doing it :)

  18. Gary

My second biggest fear is posting the same comment twice. Double motherfucker!

    • boliver

And through the magic of the internet, no one ever needs to see the double post ;)

  19. Chris K

One more step. You can do it!

    • boliver

But that next step is higher than the last one :(

  20. Jenn

Yikes! His fear of heights looks more serious that I thought…

    • boliver

Mine was once that bad…I’ve gotten a lot better.
