Rayman Origins is the best co-op platform game. Um... ever, I guess. If there's a better one, let me know, because I'd love to play it. I would have given that title to New Super Mario Bros (Wii) a year ago, but Rayman Origins kicked things up a notch.
Beyond the differences in the game mechanics themselves, there's one thing that really sets Rayman Origins apart. It really feels the developers loved making it. That's missing a lot these days.
Anywho... the sequel, Rayman Legends, is dropping soon. Unlike it's predecessor, which saw release on every platform (including the hand-helds), this is a Wii U exclusive, which seems like a strange move. But I don't really care... as long as they still loved making it.
There's been a lot of arguments over time about games and art. Games are art, games aren't art. Rayman Origins is art. The gameplay mechanics, the worlds, the characters...art. Feel free to argue with me about that...but you're wrong.
From what I've played of the Rayman Legends demo so far it's following in Rayman Origins footsteps quite beautifully. They appear to have made it prettier in fact. And that's what I love about the new Rayman franchise. It's focus on being visually pleasing, whimsical and damn fun. It's the kind of thing you dream about. That and there's going to be a badass viking chick hottie.
